Black Palm, little knives that turned in to wood.
I have a great custom guitar neck in the works for an awesome customer. The neck itself is laminates of figured maple and bubinga. The fretboard, however, will be the real show stopper. This is made of black palm which, although technically a grass, is incredibly dense and hard. It also has a tendency to splinter so great care must be taken when working with this material. The fretboard will be bound with bubinga and have a special series of inlays. Attached is a photo of the progress so far. Hopefully I'll be making some more progress tonight.
